BLC is a learning community: we all aspire to grow in our faith journey with Jesus.
Christian education provides us the “building blocks” for spiritual growth and discipleship. Christian education is about giving Christians the right tools to aid us in our journey towards Christ.
Our view and approach about Christian education is shaped by the following values:
- Integrated – we want to take an integrated approach to Christian education so that all parts work together for the collective whole. For example, we try to ensure the our worship services reinforce what happens in Sunday School, or that the Bible Study builds on themes explored in the Church Camp.
- Collective – “It takes a village to raise a child”; in the same way Christian education is our collective responsibility.
- Participative – Christian education is participative; it is not a “spectator sport” or “consumption activity” but requires active engagement instead.
- Lifelong – Having a “lifelong” view of the Christian Education journey in BLC means that recognizing that, for now, “we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror… and that [we] know now is partial and incomplete”. Hence, we have a lifelong pursuit to know Jesus better until the time when “we will see everything with perfect clarity… [and] will know everything completely, just as God now knows [us] completely.” (I Corinthians 13:12)
Christian education is “naturally” embedded into the life of the church: through sermons during worship services, various Bible Studies conducted, small groups, and such.
To help us make better sense of things, we view our Christian education ministry along the view of “Life Stages”:
