2016 BLC LiFE Groups

GivingTree-LiFEGroup

BLC’s LiFE Groups are established small groups that meet regularly to build authentic relationships and encourage spiritual growth – to Live in Faith Everyday. We believe sustained life change happens best in the context of caring relationships built on accountability and trust.

In LiFE Groups, people study God’s Word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life.  It is also where they pray, care for one another, and are missed if they are absent for any reason. LiFE Groups are designed with everyone in mind: for all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.

This year, we have six groups. Please consider joining one or even hosting one to get more plugged into the community life of BLC.

Aardvark

Meeting on alternate Fridays in Damansara Heights, with dinner.

This is a quirky group that meets with the intention to create and relate. Aardvark is purposeful in wanting to really get to know each other in a very real and authentic way. They are currently focused on the BLC Community Garden as a pet project.

If you’re a quirky older teen to adult, this might be the group for you.

Read the Bible with Kock Sheng and Ling Ling

Meets on Saturday afternoons in Puchong. Fellowship sometimes lasts until dinner!

A group that is dedicated to reading through the Bible from beginning to end. Note: it’s about just READING the Bible – this is not a Bible Study group. At the end of every book, they will host an open gathering in church and invite Pastor to provide an overview/review of the book they have just completed. They are definitely making great progress! Over two meetings, they completed 37 chapters of Genesis!

If you’re looking for companions to journey with you through reading the Bible, why not join this group?

Giving Tree

Meets on Fridays, primarily in PJ.

Giving Tree meets weekly over food, snacks and other yummy things for life updates and support in prayer. Occasionally, the group attempts Bible Studies and/or Scripture reading – but it can be challenging with toddlers and children playing nearby. The group see itself primarily as an extended family that tries to be there for each other. It’s a lot of fun and it certainly brings to life in concrete terms on what it means to “Live in Faith Everyday”

If you’re looking for people who are trying hard to live out their faith amidst noisy kids, rushed meals, traffic jams and more… you’re welcome to be a part of Giving Tree.

Men’s Accountability Group

This group has been meeting every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturdays at various restaurants in PJ.

This group is a rather high-commitment, high-trust group for men seeking accountability and support partners. They have been making good progress and are learning to trust each other more as they open up.

For men, especially those in ministry and leadership positions, this might be a good opportunity to join a group for accountability and support.

3IsEnough

Meets regularly over meals together, including on Sundays, at various locations including BLC.

This group meets regularly as a study, accountability and support group.

Women Encouraging Women

Meets monthly on the 4th Saturday of the month, at The Father’s House, Bangsar.

This group is for women to have a safe place to share struggles; to pray and be prayed for; as well as to help each other be spiritually accountable. There will also be a workout/exercise session as part of the group’s activities!

Start A Life Group?

If you would like to form a similar group, all you need are three people who are committed to meeting regularly over reading the Word and praying together. Let us know how BLC can support you in starting and sustaining one!

FREE Seminar: Spiritual Friendship – Following Jesus In The Company Of Friends – Dr. Tan Soo Inn

Soo Inn Yoda

Our friend, Dr. Tan Soo Inn, of Graceworks (and whom you might remember as our awesome camp speaker last year) will be conducting his first public lecture in Malaysia for a long, long time.

The FREE seminar is entitled, “Spiritual Friendship – Following Jesus In The Company Of Friends” and will explore how we live in an increasingly lonely world, even in the church; yet Jesus has called us His friends and wants His disciples to follow him in community (John 15:9-17). So how can we do this?

  • Date: Friday, 21 August 2015
  • Time: 8pm-10pm
  • Venue: PJ CTEE (Luther Centre) Level 5, Semenyih Room, No. 6, Jalan Utara, 46200 Petaling Jaya

The seminar will focus on two key aspects of spiritual friendship. First, it will look at the biblical teaching on spiritual friendship – what is it, and why is it so important? Next, it will explore how we can actually do it – what are some of the practical ways we can follow Jesus in the company of friends.

“We are living in difficult times in Malaysia. God has called us to be faithful witnesses so that we can shine in the darkness. We can only do this in community.”

Registration is FREE, but please confirm attendance by emailing: engtee[at]stm2[dot]edu[dot]my.

Join us! Overview of Genesis – Sunday, 3 May 2015, 12pm

One of our LiFE Groups is focused on coming together to “Read The Bible” from cover to cover. The plan for the group has been to read – not necessarily study – the Bible and then have our Pastor conduct an overview/review of the book each time they complete it. The group has made great progress reading through the Bible – in just two meetings, they have covered 37 chapters of Genesis and will soon be looking to conclude the book.

With that, the group would like to invite all to the overview of Genesis, which they will host at The Father’s House, Bangsar Lutheran Church on Sunday, 3 May 2015, after service. Lunch is provided FREE to those who RSVP, which can be done via the Facebook Event Page here.

This is an open event – please share and invite freely (and RSVP if you want lunch!).

Engage Deeply Within: Be Part Of A LiFE Group

GivingTree-LiFEGroup

One of the major callouts during our recent Church Camp 2014 was for greater engagement within the community. One of the best ways that BLC can help facilitate this is by offering and supporting LiFE Groups.

We’ve already outlined how we think of LiFE Groups here, but essentially, it can all be boiled down to this: forming intentional relationships for discipleship, accountability and support. That’s why we say the focus for each LiFEGroup is to help people “Live in Faith Everyday”.

With that, we are facilitating the formation of four new LiFE Groups (all with working titles, pending formation) – which can consist of as few as 3 people up to a recommended size of 8-12 people:

  1. Men’s Accountability Group – a high commitment, high trust and accountability group for men typically in leadership and ministry positions, seeking discipleship, support and accountability in the work that they do.
  2. Women’s Accountability Group – a counterpart to the Men’s Accountability Group, seeking to provide discipleship, support and accountability for women in a high commitment, trust and accountability setting.
  3. Working Singles 3IsEnough Group(s) – A (very) small group for time-starved, working singles who are looking to meet over breakfast, lunch or dinner during the work week for discipleship, support and accountability.
  4. The “Artsy Fartsy” Group – A gathering of creative types (across all genres, including music, art, etc.) who want to channel their creativity as forms of worship.

These are in addition to some of the pre-existing LiFE Groups, including:

  • Giving Tree – A very mixed and diverse group comprising of married couples, families with kids, and working adults.
  • Episode IV – A group working through questions of post-modern Christianity and what it means to follow Christ, be Church and in community, in today’s context.
  • Living Stones – Primarily comprising of families with older children (pre-teens, teenagers and youth).

If you would like to be a part of any of these groups, please feel free to contact Adeline Lim, our church administrator, at rumahpapa[dot]admin[at]gmail[dot]com.

Mid-Autumn/Mooncake Party at BLC!

The party just as it was kicking off!

We had a lot of fun at yesterday’s Mid-Autumn/Mooncake party!

Thank you Moh Foong, Michelle, Wan Ching and Hannah for organizing everything!

We even had a lantern procession – which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, kids and adults alike!
