Station 6: Jesus Dies on the Cross

John 19:28-30

After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Romans 5:10

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
    and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
    and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
    and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Adult Reflection

 “It is finished.” The debt of sin is paid in full; the justice of the Father is satisfied; the wrath against rebellion is absorbed in infinite love. In this final breath, the ultimate barrier – death as the consequence of sin – is met and conquered. The Lamb of God gives His life to restore the broken covenant forever.

Children’s Reflection

Jesus gave His whole life to God as a gift for us. He said, “It is finished,” which means “I did it!” He destroyed sin over our lives.  Now, when God looks at us, He just sees His loved children.

Dear Jesus, you gave your whole life as the best gift to God for me. Because you did, God’s anger at sin is gone, and now He just looks at me with love.

When you are ready, please leave the room.
