BLC - Advent 2015 - Prepare The Way

This Sunday, we enter into the Advent season, themed “Prepare The Way Of The Lord.”

Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the coming of Jesus, from two different perspectives: to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah, and to be alert for his Second Coming. As Christians we live in a time of now and not yet.

FREE Seminar: Spiritual Friendship – Following Jesus In The Company Of Friends – Dr. Tan Soo Inn

Soo Inn Yoda

Our friend, Dr. Tan Soo Inn, of Graceworks (and whom you might remember as our awesome camp speaker last year) will be conducting his first public lecture in Malaysia for a long, long time.

The FREE seminar is entitled, “Spiritual Friendship – Following Jesus In The Company Of Friends” and will explore how we live in an increasingly lonely world, even in the church; yet Jesus has called us His friends and wants His disciples to follow him in community (John 15:9-17). So how can we do this?

  • Date: Friday, 21 August 2015
  • Time: 8pm-10pm
  • Venue: PJ CTEE (Luther Centre) Level 5, Semenyih Room, No. 6, Jalan Utara, 46200 Petaling Jaya

The seminar will focus on two key aspects of spiritual friendship. First, it will look at the biblical teaching on spiritual friendship – what is it, and why is it so important? Next, it will explore how we can actually do it – what are some of the practical ways we can follow Jesus in the company of friends.

“We are living in difficult times in Malaysia. God has called us to be faithful witnesses so that we can shine in the darkness. We can only do this in community.”

Registration is FREE, but please confirm attendance by emailing: engtee[at]stm2[dot]edu[dot]my.

We Are Back From Church Camp 2014!

BLCChurchCamp2014

It’s been several weeks since we all got back safe and sound from Church Camp 2014 at Refreshing Springs Resort, spending four days and three nights dwelling on what it means to “Engage Deeply – with God, within, without.

Throughout camp, it was very encouraging to see much “engaging” happening – whether it was through personal devotional times and engaging God through nature, through one-on-one and small group discussions, through planned activities, or even through chilling and relaxing at the hot springs! For some, the deep engagement (with God, within and without!) occurred during the Flying Fox activity!

Preach and teach, he did.

We were especially blessed to have our dear and blessed friend, Rev. Dr. Tan Soo Inn of Graceworks as our camp speaker! Many really enjoyed his sessions – so, for the benefit of those who couldn’t make it for camp or may have wanted a set, Soo Inn has shared the notes of his talks with us, which are available for download here: BLC Church Camp 2014 – Main Sessions – Speaker Notes.

Photos and Videos Are Up!

See you next year for camp!

Book overview:

How do we relate Christianity to political engagement in Malaysia today? This is the question that we, as part of the community of believers, are trying to answer in this book. It is our conviction that “if Jesus Christ is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all”. We proclaim the lordship of Jesus over every aspect of life. Therefore, it is important for us to reflect on the relationship between what we confess on Sunday and what is happening in the country every day.

This compilation of articles has been produced within the context of a circle of friends who share a common concern over national issues and the importance of Christian engagement on those issues. Although all of us are Malaysians, some of us are located in Malaysia, some in Singapore, and one in Norway. We come from different traditions and denominations of the Christian faith, but are connected through Friends In Conversation, a network where we discuss relevant issues that concern Christian discipleship in the contemporary world.
