Happy Father’s Day 2015 from BLC!

Wishing all the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers and all other fatherly figures a very Happy Father’s Day!

This year we had a Fully Father-Fueled Father’s Day Service! With the help of many, we managed to put together a team of fathers fueling today’s Sunday service consisting of: Johnben leading the worship team (Benson, Yu-Chiet and Alpha), Anand as the usher and Steven as the Scripture Reader.

Doing it the very BLC way, we started off with greeting slides inspired by Star Wars and had Sermon slides with dad-comic jokes from Zits and Calvin and Hobbes, among many others.

The very talented youth came together to perform a Father’s Day rendition of the cup song titled “You’re My Dad” with witty lyrics.

Pastor Augustin later began his sermon about forgiveness – forgiveness for absent fathers, hurtful fathers and abusive fathers. He continued on with how we should also appreciate our fathers, and finally urged all fathers to trust in the Lord when bringing up children, referring to how Jesus Calms the Storm in today’s Gospel Reading.

We ended with a prayer for the fathers led by a father himself, Pastor Augustin. 10304434_861282011922_1199858492493450930_n

But wait, there’s more! The pre-teens this year decided to create a series of games to participate with their fathers, starting with an almost deadly obstacle course where the blindfolded-fathers were led by their children, to reach a “Fear Factor, Food Tractor” station for food tasting. We take the safety of our fathers very seriously and prepared safety helmets for them. No fathers were hurt in our celebration today. 10424982_10152822854272541_6253800451518236359_n

There was also a thumb-war challenge where Keat Lim with super-powered thumbs claimed victory.

After the obstacle course, food tasting and thumb-wars, the fathers and children proceeded to re-pot cacti (I know, we just love risks!), to be taken home with them for the day! As far as we know, all thumbs and fingers were still intact at the end of the service. 11377192_10152822853857541_5056195197101296372_n

A note of thanks to all who made this possible today. BLC would again like to wish everyone a very Happy Father’s Day and we hope to have you join us in some of our fun activities next time around!

Happy Mother’s Day from BLC!

BLCMothersDay2015

To all the amazing mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers, godmothers and all who play a motherly role in the lives of someone: BLC salutes you!

For this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, we had the youth lead us in worship. As an added treat, a “pampering station” was set up, where moms could pop by for a nice round of hand and shoulder massages!

There were also presents for the moms in church that day.

As part of the service, we also had a few of the children come forward to share poems they had written for their moms. Some were brutally honest… but full of love! 🙂

Pastor Augustin then came forward to preach about Naomi, from the Book of Ruth – about how she was a mother, even though not by blood.

We ended with a prayer of blessing for the mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers, godmothers and all who play a motherly role in the lives of someone.

Thanks to Johnben, the youth, as well as the rest of the team who were involved in planning this wonderful celebration.

Many of us are practically digital natives when it comes to social media, e-mail, blogs, and instant messaging (sometimes even during service)! However, there is a lot more to be learned about maintaining your safety online. This is especially so when it comes to our children, who face the ever-present threats of being sexually solicited, bullied or losing of private/personal information while being on the Internet.

With that in mind, we’ve partnered with YourWebSafety.com to deliver a FREE program: “An Introduction to Internet Safety”. This introductory program is designed for parents, teachers and youth on the dangers of unsupervised social media and internet usage, as well as, tips and tools you can use to keep you and your family safe online.

Celebrating BLC’s Fathers

This past Sunday was Fathers’ Day – which also happened to coincide with Trinity Sunday.

After the sermon, we took the time to pray a special blessing for the fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, fathers-in-law, godfathers and all who played a “fatherly” role in our church family.

 WP_20140615_11_40_22_Pro_edited

We invited them forward and then had Ling Ling, one of our longest serving church members, to pray for the fathers of BLC. Then, together, we prayed for them and blessed them.

We were also especially blessed by Michelle who, by her own initiative, prepared individually wrapped gifts (of an apple and a lovely bookmark!) for each father. The fathers also received a small gift from the church.WP_20140615_11_42_37_Pro_edited Happy Fathers’ Day!

Blessing Our Mothers

This past Sunday, Pastor Augustin preached on the week’s lectionary readings, which were also for “Good Shepherd Sunday“.

After the Holy Communion, we took the time to pray a special blessing for the mothers, step-mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, godmothers and all who played a “motherly” role in our church family.

We invited them forward and then invited the children and youth to stand behind them.

Then, together, we prayed for them and blessed them.

Each one then received a small gift from the church.

Happy Mother’s Day – be blessed: you are more than you may realize!
